Mike Gosney began the work that would become Elements Contemporary Ballet in spring 2005 by giving classes to a small group of talented, dedicated dancers. The company studied and rehearsed out of space donated by The Dance Center Evanston. ECB presented its Premiere Concert in Chicago at the famous Harold Washington Library Center in September 2006. Showcasing a unique quality combining bold moves with refined classicism, ECB quickly caught on as a producer of innovative art unlike any other in the city.
Following another concert that winter at the Harold Washington, ECB incorporated as a non-profit in November 2007 and, with funding from The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, continued on to become tax-exempt. The company next performed at Ruth Page Center for the Arts in spring 2008 and 2009.
ECB has since appeared at many other venues throughout the Chicago area, hosting lecture demonstrations at the Harold Washington Library Center and Skokie Public Library, and performing at festivals such as Evanston Arts Week, The Atlas Agenda, Libertyville’s First Fridays, and Looptopia. ECB has been a yearly favorite at Dance Chicago, appearing in many of its diverse programs and a pick for the 2007 “Best of New Moves” production, and regularly touring with the prestigious “Stars of Dance Chicago“ show. Additionally, the company has contributed performances to many benefits and galas, including Howard Brown's "La Grande Masquerade", Heartland Alliance's "Art Against AIDS", Joel Hall Dance Center’s “Flavors”, and Visceral Dance Center’s Open House. |

“…boasted solid dancing and slick, professional presentation―these ballerinas are firm on toe, not wobbly, a challenge not always met by bigger troupes.”
