Elements Contemporary Ballet participates in Chicago's Urban Gateways program, presenting it's original educational performance and lecture, The Evolution of Ballet. This production explores the transition that ballet has undergone from classical dance of the early seventeenth century to today's contemporary ballet.

In The Evolution of Ballet, students witness ballet as it evolves from classical to neo-classical and finally the contemporary ballet of today.  Each style of dance is highlighted in an interactive lecture by Artistic Director Mike Gosney and accompanied by a performance: A classical variation complete with a pink tutu and tiara; a neo-classical pas de deux that utilizing odd shapes and isolations; and a contemporary work from ECB's repertory that explores experimental ideas, improvisation, and individual expression. The show concludes with a 10 minute audience talk back session.

“…boasted solid dancing and slick, professional presentation―these ballerinas are firm on toe, not wobbly, a challenge not always met by bigger troupes.”
